Matthew Forster MW

Matthew Forster MW, founder of The Wine Partnership, is an independent consultant based in London. One of a handful of Masters of Wine who have trained as a chef, Matthew is an avid home cook and restaurant-goer who believes that wine really only shines when enjoyed with good food in good company.

Biography

In 2008 Matthew graduated from Leiths School of Food and Wine and started his wine career with prestigious UK wine merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd. After writing content for jancisrobinson.com and the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), he joined WSET full-time, leading the team responsible for the design and award of WSET qualifications in wines, spirits and sake globally.

Matthew became a Master of Wine in 2016, having been awarded the IMW Lallemand Scholarship and the AXA Millésimes Noval Award for his research paper on vintage madeira. Having lived and worked in Madrid, Lisbon and São Paulo, he is particularly interested in the food and wine cultures of the Iberian peninsula.

Matthew holds an MA in Spanish and Portuguese from Cambridge University and practised law before changing career to pursue his passion for food and wine. He is a contributor to Decanter Magazine and judges at various international competitions including the International Wine & Spirit Challenge and the Decanter World Wine Awards.
